Dorper Sheep

The Dorper breed was developed in South Africa during the 1930's as a cross of the Black Headed Persian and Dorset Horn sheep. The Dorper was bred for its lean, tender meat, its broad frame and magnificent muscling. In addition to its rich flavor and tenderness, research has proven that Dorper meat actually shrinks less than meat from other traditional sheep breeds.

Dorpers are hardy and do exceptionally well in varied and extreme environments - Including The Lowcountry. Their coats are a mixture of hair and short wool, which sheds making them an ideal breed for the hot coastal climates of South Carolina.

Dorper ewes are extremely prolific year around breeders. These moms take care of their lambs. They have incredible milk capacity with rich quality, enabling them to easily nurse twins, triplets and even quads without sacrificing lamb growth - WOW!
